Slimmer category sections

July 24, 2020 by editor Leave a Comment

The software was upgraded to provide slimmer category sections making it quicker and easier to navigate.

If you want to quickly change existing menus, you can either upload the save files and re-downloiad. Or, you can change your current ones manually by going into the assets > css > main.css and changing the code on line 2904 from
height: 20em; to height: 10em;
and on line 2886 height: 16em; to height: 8em;

Using a logo on a menu

July 24, 2020 by editor Leave a Comment

Now you can add a logo to a menu. The depth of the menu should be 35 pixels and the width can be up to 150 pixels. To make sure it looks good on the menu and lines up with the text, ensure that the logo starts at the edge of the image file. (i.e. there is no blank space between the logo and the edge of the image.

So, NOT this…

but this…

Also, a transparent .PNG image looks letter than a .JPG because a .JPG is a rectangular block.

New – web app icons and new design

July 1, 2020 by editor Leave a Comment

We have added web app icons to the Pro and Web Builder which enables users to download the menu as a ‘web app’. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to have an ‘add to home screen’ prompt which enables users to add the icon to their home screen by clicking a button. Browsers have stopped that function BUT we are looking at workarounds.

Note: You can create ALL of the required icons using our Icon Generator software. Upload a square image of 1024 pixels or even 512 pixels and the software will instantly create all icons and download them in a zip folder to your computer.

In addition to the web app icons, we have changed the flow of the menus in the PRO version. This came about after consultations and use for a 3 weeks by our pilot restaurant. We have put the Check-In UNDER the food and drinks menu items. This can be moved back to the top by manually copying and pasting the relevant code. Please refer to our advanced video for more information: Moving sections on a page

You can view the new version 3 funnel flow in this demo >>> Monsoon Thai

Creating Branded QR Codes

July 1, 2020 by editor Leave a Comment

Restaurants will need a way for customers to access their iMENU other than just giving them a URL. A QR Code is the perfect solution. The latest mobile phones come with a QR scanner built into the camera so the following wording works well:

To access the menu, point your camera & scan the QR Code below or visit: menu.url

NOTE: you don’t need to add the https://www to the menu URL.

Some clients prefer to keep instructions to a minimum and assume their customers know what to do. This will be a decision for the restaurant owner.

To create a QR Code, we recommend and use: https://www.qrcode-tiger.com/ because you can create funky QR codes and brand them a restaurant’s logo. Here is an example:

Creating a Language Opener

June 30, 2020 by editor Leave a Comment

This video explains how to create a language opener page to link to menus with different languages. This is useful for restaurants that are international and need an additional language. Most restaurants have a maximum of two languages but, if necessary, we will update the software so you can add additional languages.

NOTE: You could have two languages in ONE menu e.g. have a  page heading as DRINKS – BEBIDAS however, very annoyingly Google’s chrome tries to auto-translate and so the menu can appear very strange unless the end-user has auto-translate disabled. For this reason, it is better to add a second menu in a specific language.

Enjoy!

Alternative ways to use the Check-In Function

June 22, 2020 by editor Leave a Comment

The check-in function encourages customers to check-in on Facebook. However, please note that it is OPTIONAL and you could use this for a number of other purposes. For example, you could use it to invite customers to:

  • enter a competition
  • post a photo on Instagram and tag the restaurant
  • subscribe to a VIP list
  • follow on Twitter
  • like on Facebook
  • …you get the idea 🤔
